About the artist... Dreaming of You was the last studio album recorded by Selena. It was first released in 1995 after her death, and re-released in 2002. The album showcased Selena's talents as a performer, as well as how she was able to perform at ease in diverse musical genres. Dreaming of You was to have been the album that would bring Selena to the mainstream market that was always her goal. The album was released by EMI in 39 countries around the world. For this album, Selena collaborated with some of several producers and writers. Songs like "Dreaming of You", written by Frank Golde and Tom Snow, and "I Could Fall In Love", written by Keith Thomas, became modest hits in Mainstream and Latin radio stations all over the U.S. and Latin America. Dreaming of You sold 175,000 copies on July 18, the day it was released. It made number 1 on Billboard's pop chart on the CD's debut week, selling more than 331,000 copies, making Selena the fastest selling Latin female artist of all time and the only one to debut at #1. EMI Latin's president estimated that the album actually sold more than 700,000 copies the first week because Billboard does not include discount stores or the small shops specializing in Latin music. The album has since sold around 16 million copies since its 1995 release. Well received by critics and fans, the album can be described as two mini-albums, one with new unreleased English tracks and the other with Selena's most current and memorable hits like "Amor Prohibido", "Como,La Flor", and "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom". Dreaming of You solidified Selena, and caused Billboard Magazine to proclaim her Artist of the Decade. Selena's legacy can easily be described like those of legends Elvis, John Lennon, Kurt Cobain and Tupac Shakur with continuous album sales and commercial hits even in death. |
